Detroit, MI – August 28, 2019 In an ongoing effort to support philanthropic causes, JMJ Phillip has donated to Forgotten Harvest resulting in ‘Gold Sponsor’ status, alongside other prominent company names such as Mercedes-Benz and Kroger. Seeking to provide 750,000 meals, Forgotten Harvest offered multiple sponsorship levels, in addition to the tickets they had sold to the public for their inaugural fundraising event. JMJ Phillip, a frequent volunteer at the Forgotten Harvest Oak Park location, wanted to show their continuous support by donating to help see the event come to fruition.
JMJ Phillip Group, understanding their opportunity and obligation to give back to the community, partners annually with Forgotten Harvest. Chairman of JMJ Phillip Group, James Philip, says “Sponsoring Forgotten Harvest has always been one of my primary charities to support since as a youth, since I often found myself food insecure. Having the chance to give back and help others will always be a priority for our companies.”
Taking place this past weekend, the “On Track” To End Hunger event was hosted at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, allowing participants to experience a the “Thrill Ride” adventure. Teaming up with Mercedes and Suburban Collection, guests were driven around the performance track at neck-breaking speeds, reaching up to 110 miles per hour in various models of AMGs and Challengers.
Attendees of the event were also able to enjoy food from local restaurants and drinks from Michigan-based distilleries. The renowned distilleries Atwater and Detroit City Distillery provided an array of beers and exclusive mixed drinks while famous local restaurants such as Vinsetta Garage, Brad’s BBQ, Maggiano’s, and Slow’s BBQ provided their own signature dishes.
Forgotten Harvest is a local food rescue nonprofit that takes “wasted” food and donates it to organizations in support of solving hunger in Michigan. Each year, supermarkets throw away almost 43 billion pounds of food, most of which is still salvageable for consumption. Forgotten Harvest has partnered with and collected donations from local grocery stores including Kroger, Costco, Meijer, and Walmart resulting in saving 41,523,762 pounds of food from waste.
