5 CV Tips That Will Help Land Your Dream Job

A CV, or curriculum vitae, is typically known as an “elevator pitch” styled document used to portray your personal information. Applications will require the essential “cut and dry” parts of your experience whereas a CV allows you to show your commitment to the career of your choosing.

This basic summary of your personal information is one of the most convenient way for you to market yourself to your future employers while setting yourself apart from other candidates. Besides from the usual tip to avoid spelling and grammar mistakes, we have collected a few more tips that will greatly boost your chances at landing your dream job.

1. Use a Personal Statement

By adding skill sets that are not typically highlighted on your resume allows the hiring manager to learn more about your best characteristics. This is your chance to express your strong communication skills and/or your natural ability to lead through example.

2. Include Key Pieces of Information

Ensure your resume will have data regarding your personal information. Include your name, address, phone number, as well as any professional social media sites. Make sure to include relevant education information, like where you have graduated from or what degree you had obtained

3. Portray the Importance of Your Previous Related Experiences

Avoid mentioning routine daily tasks and use action words to describe your background and how they will come to benefit the company. Use your CV to speak about the relevant experiences that you’ve had in the past and responsibilities that are suitable for the position you are applying to.

For example; if you applying to an entry level manufacturing position but only have internships as an relevant professional experience, use transferable experiences from your past such as customer service or problem solving skills from previous jobs to supplement.

4. Highlight Your Achievements

It is completely acceptable to brag about your achievements from your past roles. Speak about awards or offer evidence to show how your goals were met to help the hiring manager gain insight in regards of your accomplishments or work ethics.

5. Tailor Your CV

Like your resume, you should be constantly updating and tailoring your CV to better suit each position you are applying for. As a final reminder…always revise your finished product to catch any spelling errors or grammatical blunders. You would never want the reason behind your missed opportunity be because of a misspelled word!
